Repairing Wood Trim

Wood trim often needs repairs and requires different techniques of restoration from those for walls or plaster surfaces. Wood, whether in the form of paneling, baseboard, or any other feature, tends to suffer from general wear-and-tear such as bumps, scrapes, and splits. Minor damage can be treated with the relevant filler, but more serious damage may require replacement sections of wood in order to restore the surface to an attractive finish.

Window Types & Construction

Much of the variation between window types relates to style and period. There is a need to consider window function in terms of insulating properties and to what extent opening lights and casements are required in the window structure. How Windows are Installed

Glass options need a certain amount of consideration, because all windows contain some sort of glass, along with many part-glazed or totally glazed doors. Modern invention and innovation has allowed for a range of different types of glass to become available, with differing properties of both their finish and function. Decisions, therefore, need to be made on what type of glass is suitable for your needs in relation to the door or window in question.

Door Types & Construction

There are many types of door design, but they all have functions and features in common. Much of the structural variation derives from the materials used. This in turn is related to cost and so to a certain degree, structure and quality are common denominators in the design of doors. Window & Security Hardware

Most new wooden windows are supplied with window hardware, but it is often relatively cheap and simple in design, and there is always the option to change it for something more decorative. Security fittings will also need to be added to wooden windows to make sure they are easy to lock through and from intruders. Vinyl and metal windows tend to be supplied with window furniture as part of the window design and therefore options should be chosen at the same time as the windows.

Adding Security Locks

Security locks are additional window hardware, yet they are as important as the usual opening and closing mechanisms. Issues of security should be considered for all varieties of window, not simply wooden casement windows. Again, there is a wide selection! of locks, and you should choose according to the design of your windows and the finish -of the other window hardware.
